Veterans Day November 11
Veterans Day is just around the corner being celebrated on November 11. It started as a day to note the heroism for those who died in service for our country. The day falls on November 11 after having the date shifted around a few times years ago. Veterans Day originally started out being called Armistice Day.
The dictionary states that an armistice is a formal agreement of warring parties to stop fighting. It is not necessarily the end of a war, as it may constitute only a cessation of hostilities while an attempt is made to negotiate a lasting peace.
November 11 was the date of the signing of the armistice that ended World War I. When first celebrated as Armistice Day, the day marked the end of WWI, formally recognized on the "11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month" in 1918.
In 1954, the name of the holiday was changed from "Armistice Day" to "Veterans Day" to recognize veterans of all wars.
We celebrate and honor America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of country and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.
Veterans Day is a specific time for us to pay our respects to those who have served.
Dear Veteran, for one day, we stand united in respect for you, our veterans.
